Daniel Fasting

At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.Daniel 10:2-3 NIV

e Daniel Fast as the passage above indicates is a partial fast. We are aware that people approach it di erently. Some people decide to have all three meals in a day whilst others may decide to skip meals or have nothing at all on some days.

We encourage you to participate at the level that you are able. Please keep in mind the main aim of this fast is to give ourselves to seek the Lord. ose of you who have speci c health issues please be wise during the fast.

Practical Guidance

The following are recommended during the fast:

Wholemeal rice, pasta

Pulses – lentils, barley etc.

(Fruit or herbal tea)

(Meat and dairy are avoided)

Remember this is not a legalistic process! We trust that this will be a blessed time for you, individually and collectively, for the participating Churches as we ask the LORD to teach us to pray.

According to the evangelist Mark,1 the primary reason Jesus invited e Twelve – from the crowd that followed Him – was that they would be with Him. He invited them to where they could watch and imitate Him. Many things are caught than taught in such a setting. One of the subjects the disciples caught was to notice the importance of prayer in His life.

Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he nished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1 (ESV)

`This is the theme of our Daniel Fast: Lord, teach us to pray. The Lord’s prayer – as it has come to be termed - is the outcome of this desire. Matthew 6:9-16 (NKJV)

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
